Welcome to the WW 2011 e-bulletin series
This is the first in a series of e-bulletins intended to be your source for news and developments related to Women's Worlds 2011. We invite you to forward each edition broadly throughout your professional and personal networks, and to encourage others to subscribe.
Women's Worlds 2011 is shaping up to be a stimulating gathering for academics, activists and policy makers from around the globe to:
- connect and converse
- discuss globalization as it relates to women
- explore cutting-edge feminist research from academia and the community level
- develop new networks and strengthen existing ones, and
- collaborate on approaches to advancing women's rights, women's empowerment, and gender equality
Conversations will flow in all sorts of directions - from academia and the front-lines through activism and policy and art. This conversation includes you.
Where we are at:
- our website, launched in June, garners consistently high traffic
- a promotional poster and brochure are circulating around the world
- a buzz-generating social media strategy - including an active facebook group of 1300+ members - continues to grow
- our guiding principles and objectives are now on-line for you to view and share
Presidents go viral
This just in: Roseann Runte and Allan Rock - the presidents of Carleton University and the University of Ottawa, respectively - have recorded an invitation to Women's Worlds 2011 just for you. We would love your help in spreading the word - watch and forward!
Thinking about your submission?
As we finalize the 'Call for Participation' for this exciting feminist event (due to go viral in December 2009), we hope you have already started thinking about the what and how of your own participation. Let your brainstorming begin!
3 things you can do right now
1. WEIGH IN: A big event like this needs big ideas. Your input on critical planning questions will be essential in organizing the most diverse, inspirational, and relevant congress. Get in touch with your suggestions for speakers, topics, artists, and more.
2. JOIN IN: Our facebook group has already become a lively place for WW 2011 supporters provide input on key aspects of congress planning, engage in discussions related to the congress theme, and network with like-minded people from across the globe.
3. LINK IN: Are you 'wearing' a WW 2011 button? Post our colourful web badge to your departmental, organizational, or personal website to help spread the word. This is a high impact way to encourage everyone in your network to save the dates.
Whatever you have been doing to promote Women's Worlds 2011, it's working. We are still in the initial promotional phase, so please continue to spread the word about this important global feminist event, and stay tuned for more developments.
