People, things, ideas and symbols are increasingly on the move as a result of globalization, technology, and infrastructures. The Center for Women and Gender Research ("Kvinnforsk") of Norway's University of Tromsø wants to apply feminist perspectives to the comparison of social, cultural, economical, and political aspects of permanent and temporary mobility across geo boundaries. Its session "On the Move and Crossing Borders: Women's Labour Mobility in a Global Context" will ask "Which women are mobile through their work, why and with what outcomes?" and "Is mobility a choice for women and therefore empowering, or is it forced and thus disabling?", among others. Discussion will emphasize migration and commuting as they relate to women's paid labour.
This session will be presented in English.
